Item description
The introduction page of a small sketchbook resting on a black surface. On a white piece of paper is black text that has the title “lost lights” with the beginning of each word capitalized. The text underneath reads: “a colorful memorial for the 6.5 million+ individuals across the world who lost their lives to COVID-19. Each page represents 225,000+ people. There will be many more. So many lives could have been saved. I hope that history will have made that clear”. In the bottom right corner is the name and date “Cynthia Friedlob 9/15/22”. The paper is taped onto the page with golden strips of tape overlapping each other and holographic star stickers in the colors red, yellow, blue, green, and purple. The handle of a pair of silver scissors rests on the edge of the page.

Lost Lights 2

Images show the front/title, two intro pages, two sample interior pages, and the final page of a 32-page mini-sketchbook (3-1/2"x5") created for the Time Capsule Project at the Brooklyn Art Library/Sketchbook Project (recently relocated to St. Petersburg, FL). Description: "After a wild 2.5 years, we wanted to find a way for our community to preserve something and tell a story about 2022, so we're filling a time capsule and burying it for 50 years." One thousand artists have submitted sketchbooks. An exhibit is expected soon, followed by a ceremony in which the time capsule will be buried on site.
