Luxury Plague Mask 1
Well, leatherwork has kinda been my thing for a while so the medium was a no-brainer. The pandemic was setting in as a reality and I was looking for a way to reflect on it. I had not been interested in making a mask before but it seemed timely since masks were becoming part of daily life. I’m always looking for a creative project and enjoy communicating ideas through my work.; I made this early on in the pandemic, in March and April of 2020. I was following several luxury brands on LinkedIn and was reflecting on what was important in life vs. what was being presented as relevant by some of the different companies. Basically something like how silly branding, status, and consumption are when people are getting sick and dying. I was also thinking about how the very wealthy were experiencing the pandemic differently than the majority of the population. It became extra relevant once the civil unrest started due to its high-functionality and satirical message.
