Item description
A close up photograph of a scroll, draped across a banister, half rolled out across the floor of a dimly lit studio space. On the scroll are different cyanotype photographic prints of different abstract nature in a teal blue and white color, alongside illegible poetry. A small circle of light from the ceiling illuminates the scroll in the middle of the photograph.

Anamnesis 2

Emily KrayAlexander Arce

My collaborator...and I struggled to find solid ground during the pandemic. Both of us became unemployed, we were still expected to pay rent and to take care of our families. Friendships became frayed and we felt the weight of isolation. In order to combat those realities and also to come to terms with our new reality, we decided to make this massive scroll to reflect how we felt; We wanted to focus on the fragility of the system that we lived in, so we wanted to juxtapose the extremes within the system. Poverty versus wealth, health versus illness, life versus death, isolation versus community thematically fill the scroll. We asked questions about how these stark differentials in quality of life exposed the weakness of leadership and the unfeeling dystopia of our late stage capitalist society.
