Item description
A screenshot of a model of the MSU library built in the game Minecraft. The image is animated in a geometric style where everything is squared. In the screenshot is a view of the digital scholarship lab from the outside. The glass exterior is represented by transparent glass blocks with shine spots in the corners. The visible room beyond shows rows of computers on the left (represented by black glass blocks), purple furniture, a gray reception desk in the center, and the interior rooms on the right.

Minecraft Model of the MSU Libraries 2

Julie Taylor

The MSU Libraries used to be open 24/5 + weekend hours. Then, suddenly, it was closed with very limited staff access. I wanted to create a virtual model that anyone, anywhere, could visit. I thought it would be a fun way for international scholars to visit and for incoming students to familiarize themselves with the libraries. Libraries are welcoming treasure troves of information, resources, and services, and I hoped this creative work would inspire future library staff. The MSU Libraries is also constantly changing with renovations, acquisitions, and shifting resources and services. This model provides a 2020 snapshot, a time capsule of the MSU Libraries.
