A friend of mine showed me a beloved jacket that her dog had chewed some holes in and I knew in my bones it was the right piece for me to practice my first visible mending on. I bought a used book, some special needles and thread, got out my ruler and started marking and sewing, making it up as I go. I thought I was done when I finished the two holes in the back, and then I found a chewed lapel. I had to add fabric to rebuild it, and it was the hardest part, but it came out pretty well! My friend was excited to get it back and I see her wearing the jacket often. It meant a lot to me to be able to fix something worthwhile.
