  • These are all an abstract ink drawings, some with cardstock borders, created in a more or less stream-of-consciousness style. I hadn't taken an art class since junior high school, and I always assumed I was bad at drawing. In fact, I have always struggled with creative endeavors, because at some point I became overly critical and perfectionistic about everything I did. Over the course of the pandemic, I realized that I could draw solely for enjoyment and stop judging my skills against some self-imposed standard. Once I internalized that, I really started to enjoy it and I wanted to experiment, creating things that are ambiguous, patterns that make their own rules and then break them, something interesting to look at. I wanted to create drawings which were unlike anything I had ever seen.

The top third is turquoise, with a dark blue circle coming out from the upper left corner and a pointy silver shape on the upper right corner. The top third is speckled with very small white dots that are evocative of stars. The middle third has a tan backdrop with a black skyline that stands out against the turquoise section above. Within the tan section there are detailed drawings of abstract shapes and lines in many colors. The line seperating the middle section from the bottom is rounded and curvy. The bottom third is red, with white lines and dark half-circles that form geometric shapes.

  • An abstract ink drawing on a tan background. In the center of the piece, going from the top to the bottom, are several wavy orange lines. On top of these lines are black markings, lines, and shapes, more geometric and less fluid than the orange lines, that extend out to the edges of the page. One shape branches out from the center of the orange lines to nearly touch the edge of the page; within it is a green, horizontally oriented oval.On the right side of the page is a metallic gold curved line that extends from the top of the piece to the bottom, with a shape in the center of it that extends to the right edge of the piece. The black lines overlap with this gold shape to form two crescent moon-shaped drawings that face each other.

Below the circle, fanning out into a curved shape, are several rows of red and green rectangles. On each side of the rows, dark green wing-like shapes with red swirls extend across the piece. The tip of the left wing is attatched to a chain shape that ends with a green and red half-circle in the bottom left corner. Below the wings and the rows of rectangles are several colorful, narrow vertical shapes that form a vertical stalk and divide the page in half.
