Dancing in the Pandemic

Jaylin Coleman

I created an overall montage of how I stayed creative during the pandemic. I wanted to choreograph a full dance with other dancers so bad and then COVID happened and we were forced to isolate. During the peak of quarantine, I started to have my mom record me doing different movements and combinations to the song I wanted to use, so that once I was finally able to make a dance, I would have a good chunk of work, and I wouldn't be starting from scratch. This was a way for me to still feel creative and choreograph even if I could not be near any dancers. In the video you see clips of me from quarantine and "how it started" and then fast forward to April 2021 when I was able to make the dance and "how it went". It is cool to see the progress and changes of my initial idea and how it turned out as a whole.

While making this video, I kept going back in the time of the pandemic and quarantine and how hard that was for me emotionally and mentally. Dancing and choreographing was the one thing that allowed me to feel some since of normalcy in the craziness. It was a bitter sweet time for me where I did a lot of growing and figuring myself out and my true passion.
