Item description
A four-panel digitally drawn comic from the webcomic Junicorn. The title Junicorn goes vertically down the left side. Below it is the caption “By Jude Nevermind, co-written by Junicorn Algebra” and next to it, the caption “Conversations with my kid, an incredible person who also happens to have Autism and Albinism.”
Panel 1: Junicorn’s mom, a human with pink hair, lays in bed with her eyes closed and her phone next to her head. A round blue speech bubble comes from the phone saying “Settle into your meditation. Take a deep breath in. Slowly breathe out.”
Panel 2: The meditation continues with “Relax your brow. Relax your jaw. Let the anxiety slowly slip away.” There is a shadow of a unicorn on the left side of the bed. On the right is a spiky orange speech bubble of someone yelling “MOM!! Mac viruses are MAKING THE ROUNDS AGAIN!”
Panel 3: Junicorn bursts in, yelling “MOM! It’s NOT a hoax! It’s real!!” as the meditation continues with “Let the tension drop away from your shoulders.” Junicorn’s mom does not react.
Panel 4: The meditation continues with “Surrender to this tranquility.” as Junicorn yells over it “Are you LISTENING?! COMPUTER VIRUSES ARE SERIOUS THREATS!”. Her mom remains in bed with her eyes closed with her eyebrows angled downwards.

Comic Diary created about and in collaboration with my child who has Autism. At first just because my daughter is funny and I wanted to share her with friends and family. But during Covid, especially in lock down, going through puberty with an Autistic tween has been a lot for both of us and also my husband to process. It's a diary, it's a connection to loved ones we can't be with, it's a connection to other people on the spectrum & special needs families that we see them.
