Item description
A photograph of a wire sculpture attached to a small, dark wooden block, resting on top of a bigger, white colored wooden block against a black background. The sculpture is made of silver wire, arranged with the words “Stay Home” in a continuous, cursive font on the right. On the left there is an arrow pointing towards the outside of the right wall of a home with two windows stacked on top of each other. There is a cloud above the house’s roof, a patch of grass to the right of the house underneath the arrow, and a tree to the far left side of the sculpture.

Wire sculpture 2

Sandra Escudero Gravino

The curiosity to investigate and start creating different things applying my previous experience in handling the material; using the trial and error method to learn, it was many hours of work.

If I was reflecting a lot on that moment, I felt a lot of fear and helplessness. I saw how many people, the most unprotected, wandered the streets of my city asking for help of all kinds, but above all for food to survive. There were many people that I observed from my apartment
from my ninth floor. I also took countless photos of Colombian people and Venezuelan immigrant families who daily begged for help, singers who gave serenades from very early hours hoping that they would throw some money at them for being there outside a building making the observers smile and perhaps listen to a melody in a crucial moment of confinement.
