A season for all things 4
It’s been a season full of creativity. When life presents obstacles and challenges, I often feel that’s when I experience peaks of creative thinking and expression. My husband and I got married last summer. We had planned a destination wedding in Puerto Rico. Just 8 weeks before the trip we accepted it just wasn’t going to happen the way we imagined and pivoted to a homey wedding at my parents farm in Kentucky. So the entire wedding planning process demanded thoughtful approaches to a traditional wedding. We held the wedding outdoors and arranged seating in a spiral so that our guests could maintain distance and yet still feel connected. My flower girls were my husbands nieces so I had us make our own bouquets so that I could spend some time getting to know them a little before the wedding itself. They live quite far away and I hadn’t met them in person ahead of the wedding weekend.
After the excitement of the wedding, I settled in at my new home in a new town. I crocheted a blanket for my husband. I made wreath for our front door. We took up oil painting as a new hobby. And all the way I was finding new ways to connect with my piano students so we could continue to make music. One of my students even wrote a new piece of music that he performed at our spring recital. We then worked together to get him accepted as a performer for a local performing arts festival. Yes, it’s been a season of prolific creation.
I seek out connection with others at all times. The isolation of the pandemic as certainly changed the ways we are used to doing that. My work helps me to continue finding ways to keep people close
