Night Jazz

Cynthia Friedlob

These are digital drawings made in 2020/21/22. I've been making art using many different media for over 30 years and have focused on drawing geometric shapes for the last 20 or so years. I began drawing using my computer about 10 years ago.

The late artist Carmen Herrera once said that she liked to make her geometric paintings because she liked straight lines and she wanted to put some order into the world. I agree. And the chaos and uncertainty of these pandemic times make it even more satisfying to create order.

The drawings I made expressed my thoughts and feelings about the changes that were going on: the empty city streets, the memorial flowers, the need to work together for the common good, moments of joy and hope, moments of sadness, and a feeling today that everything has been altered in a way that can't be reversed, so must be accepted.
