Item description
A figurine sculpted out of polymer clay, reminiscent of the “We Can Do It” woman from World War II posters. The figurine has tan skin and short black hair, tied up by a white spotted red bandana. A white covid mask covers her face, and she wears a teal blue health care worker’s coat rolled past her elbows, khakis, and black shoes. Her hands rest against her hips, and she stands on a speckled gray surface. The figurine is placed on a pebbled ground outdoors, with grass and plants blurred in the background behind it.

Strong Woman 1

This polymer clay piece that was inspired by the 'We Can Do It' woman in the iconic World War II poster. This pandemic spurred me into exploring various art forms and art materials, some more familiar than others. It didn't take too long to create this piece as the image in my mind was already vivid. As for the final look, I allowed the process to guide me, allowing myself to work with what I had and what I knew I was capable of. I believe , however, that I was also inspired by Children’s picture books in creating the look of my version. Children’s books are filled with wonder, imagination and are capable of breaking down complex ideas and concepts into simple words and attractive images. Perhaps this is what Strong Woman aims to offer - an accessible way to consider the ideas of strength against all odds.
