Item description
A photograph of a mixed media collage made with magazine scraps on a silver, sparkly background. There is a dark-skinned person with long, braided hair, scraps of purple, pink, and orange covering their hair. They are wearing a long, light blue, collared jacket, decorated with cut out scraps of different green paper. Their shadows are replaced with yellow and pink paper, and their eyes are replaced with metallic red paper. There is a colorful, iridescent scrap of paper covering the bottom half of their face like a mask.

Covid Collage Project 6

These works are from a series that are very similar so I will explain them in general. These are collages that express my feelings towards the pandemic using magazines, glitter paper, and leftover wrapping paper and gift bags. I also employed some art tape and florescent craft papers in the process. The creative process involved me playing and experimenting. I would finish a collage and put it on the wall and then step back and see what I liked and what was working aesthetically and then I would push those approaches in the ensuing collages. This allowed the work to develop "in process" on my office wall. Through this approach a 'style' and 'visual vocabulary' began to emerge. At the time, my goal was to do one a day while we were in quarantine but as the months wore on I felt that the project was eventually finished to completion. I made close to 200 and currently once in a while I will get in the mood to work on more and go into my office and make a new batch.
