Once upon a Disability
Once upon a Disability" is a story quilt illustrating some of the inequities that people with disabilities face whether there is a global pandemic or not. This piece was done as part of my Disabled Artist-in-Residency at Main Line Art Center in Haverford, PA and is now part of the Center's permanent collection. I worked under the mentorship of Jessica Curtaz who introduced me to the concept of story quilts. The quilt is fabric collage with some fabric marker and mono print.
The text lines read: "Once upon a time people with disabilities faced obstacles." "Once upon a time is now." "And they'll live happily ever after when barriers are replaced with support and equity."
