Serene Frontier

I uploaded a fraction of the total works I've created during the pandemic, as art has been my one true vice and coping mechanism, and I've created something nearly every single day since COVID-19 hit the US.

Each piece has varying themes, stories, mediums, and purposes, but are united by three things that earmark my experience through the pandemic (1) my desire for escapism (2) the collective societal angst and feeling of obligation to capture the times and (3) the desire to spread joy and give back in small ways.

Serene Frontier (Oil painting of Alaska Landscape): One of my first paintings as we went into lockdown , prompted by my desire to be somewhere remote, far away from the panic and desperation of bustling cities. I was inspired by recalling the quiet and calmness that I recalled from my visit to Juneau years prior. I channeled the bright soft colors and serenity of the scene to remind myself that through all this, we will prevail, just as nature does. The mountain represented strength, and the glacier, though receding constantly with climate change and human pressures, still remains strong and beautiful.
