Zion: Impressions of the National Park
My creative work is a short, 5 minute composition for five instruments: flute, violin, french horn, cello, and piano. It is program music, written to describe the feelings I remembered about a visit to Zion National Park. During the pandemic, I took an on-line course in compostion to help pass the time and to give me connection to other musicians. Writing music became a wonderful outlet to counter the feelings of isolation that developed during the shut down. Since I am 76 years old, I was being careful about exposure to the virus and stayed in much of the time for nearly 2 years. The composition expressed the freedom in nature that I wasn't able to enjoy in person. The music is intended to describe eagle's flight, glacial movement, waterfalls, and grazing herds.
