Item description
A four-panel digitally drawn comic from the webcomic Junicorn. The title Junicorn goes vertically down the left side. Below it is the caption “By Jude Nevermind, co-written by Junicorn Algebra” and next to it, the caption “Conversations with my kid, an incredible person who also happens to have Autism and Albinism.”
Panel 1: Junicorn’s mom lays on a bed in the dark. The panel is drawn in shades of blue, except for Junicorn, who is white. Junicorn, standing next to the bed, asks “Mom! Mom! Are you okay?” Her mom replies “My depression is kicking me in the brain right now. But I’ll be okay soon, so I don’t want you to worry.”
Panel 2: Junicorn says “I’m going to put you in a recovery position.” Her mom asks “What’s a recovery position?”
Panel 3: Junicorn says “The recovery position is used to help clear the airway of water after suspected drowning.” While grabbing her mom’s arms and legs.
Panel 4: Junicorn has turned her mom on her side with her arms and legs bent. Junicorn says “There. Now you won’t choke to death on your own vomit.” Her mom replies “Well, that’s a relief.”

Comic Diary created about and in collaboration with my child who has Autism. At first just because my daughter is funny and I wanted to share her with friends and family. But during Covid, especially in lock down, going through puberty with an Autistic tween has been a lot for both of us and also my husband to process. It's a diary, it's a connection to loved ones we can't be with, it's a connection to other people on the spectrum & special needs families that we see them.
