Item description
A four-panel digitally drawn comic from the webcomic Junicorn. The title Junicorn goes vertically down the left side. Below it is the caption “By Jude Nevermind, co-written by Junicorn Algebra” and next to it, the caption “Conversations with my kid, an incredible person who also happens to have Autism and Albinism.” Panel 1: Junicorn’s dad, a brown bull, is sitting in front of a laptop with headphones on. He says “I’ll be doing that program with my Algebra I students.” To his right is a spiky yellow text bubble that says “Beep! Beep!” surrounded by squeaking and stomping. Panel 2: Junicorn, a white unicorn, and her mom, a human with pink hair, in a different room. Junicorn is sitting on the floor with a toy fire truck in front of her, stomping her feet repeatedly and holding her phone. Her mom says “Junicorn, you need to be quiet. Daddy is in a Zoom meeting.” Junicorn replies “Today I’m going to be testing out my fire alarm pull station.” Panel 3: Junicorn is texting and still stomping her feet. Her mom says “Honey, you’re making a lot… Hey! Who are you texting?” Panel 4: Junicorn’s dad receives a text from Junicorn that reads “I think my mom is acting like a kidnapper. Making me silent but I’m not a baby.”

Kate Cosgrove

A Comic Diary created about and in collaboration with my child who has Autism. At first just because my daughter is funny and I wanted to share her with friends and family. But during Covid, especially in lock down, going through puberty with an Autistic tween has been a lot for both of us and also my husband to process. It's a diary, it's a connection to loved ones we can't be with, it's a connection to other people on the spectrum & special needs families that we see them.
