Item description
A section of a quilt that depicts the fairy tale “The Steadfast Tin Soldier” The block has a green and white triangular patterned background. To the bottom right of the block is a soldier with an amputated leg, looking longingly to a ballerina on top of a set of stairs. In between the soldier and stairs is a jack in the box with a person coming out of the box, meant to represent a politician who votes against ADA regulations and infrastructure. The soldier has pale skin and is wearing a tall black hat, a red sparkly uniform shirt with a white ‘X’ across the middle, blue pants, a black boot on his non-amputated leg, and is holding himself up with forearm crutches, all made out of fabric. The ballerina has dark brown skin and is wearing a blue leotard with a matching skirt, and blue ballet shoes, all made out of fabric. She is in a typical ballet position, both of her arms placed above her head, her left leg brought up against her right leg so she can balance on her right foot.

The Steadfast Tin Soldier

"The Steadfast Tin Soldier" quilt block: The Soldier has come back from war having lost part of his leg in an IED bombing. Once back home, he has difficulty navigating the potholed streets and grandfathered buildings that don't have to comply with ADA regulations. He would like to be able to see the Ballerina, the love of his life, perform, but he is impeded by the Politician in the Box who votes against improving infrastructure.
