Monarch Layover

Wanda Tyner

Wanda’s nature-inspired glass art depicts a story that flows from realistic representations to abstract interpretations with 3D elements that add depth and reflections. Wanda manipulates and forms glass into shapes with heat, flow, dimension, patterns and texture bringing vibrant colors to life.

Kilnformed glass abstract background and glass stand. Kiln-casted monarch butterflies, dinnerplate Impelo hibiscus flowers, ladybugs, bee and caterpillar are installed with either rare-earth magnets or stand-offs made for glass installations.

I designed the colors and structure of the glass and then manipulated the glass at high temperatures to swirl the colors into patterns. After cold working, the glass is firepolished while adding texture. The glass stand is kilnformed into a shape to support the sculpture with coldworking to ensure the bottom is level and sturdy.
