Photos as Masks
This image is another Self-Portrait and sometimes I add different tags to the title, such as "Photos as Masks", or "Digital Selves" or "Zoom Call". These photographs have multiple layers to them. They were originally created by layering video stills of myself wearing my masks and/or face paint. I then printed these life-sized and photographed myself wearing the photos themselves as masks and then compiled all the image into a single photograph. It reminds me somewhat of the Zoom call layout and can be seen as a video call with all my different selves, or it can be seen as our digital selves- the faces we show the world online. This photograph is on display in an online group exhibit called Engaging Creativities: Art in the Pandemic, presented by the University of Alberta and the Royal Society of Canada. This photograph was also purchased this year by the Art Bank of Nova Scotia which gave me inspiration and motivation to keep going with my artwork.
