Item description
A mixed-media painting with collage accents. In the center of the painting are the faces of a man and a woman very close to each other, painted in stylized shades of blue and green. The woman, on the right, is resting her cheek on the man’s forehead. Hands, painted in shades of blue, yellow, and red, reach up from the bottom of the frame; one hand rests on the man’s head, and the other hand is caressing the woman’s chin. Collaged around them are small photographs of the couple in real life, in various romantic poses.

For Casey and Niah

Simone Robinson

I found myself sometimes lost in the world around me, especially when I was losing friends to violence in the same city I had learned to love and grew up in. I remember not wanting to do anything when Casey Goodson passed, he was a friend of mine's boyfriend so this created a large gap in my creative atmosphere. However, there are going to be times where one finds strength and their work, and other times where one does not. I decided to create a piece that focused on the life of Casey Goodson who was tragically shot and killed on his front doorstep by police brutality. This image is of him and his longtime girlfriend Niah. I wanted to share a piece that was not focused on his tragic death, but more so on the life he lived while he was here on earth surrounded by love and peace.
