Item description
An acrylic and oil painting on canvas of a bartender and patron. Behind the bar are shelves filled with vaccine vials. Bottles line the back of the wall on top of the counter. The bartender stands behind the bar wearing a blue button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up to their bicep, a blue and white patterned tie, blue suspenders, and gray pants. They have short black hair and are wearing a blue COVID mask on their face. Their hands are up as if they would be shaking a drink, but instead are filling a syringe with medicine from a vaccine vial. The patron with short black hair and wearing a blue shirt is asleep at the bar, with their head resting on their arm. On their bicep is a bandage. In front of them at the bar are two yellow drinks, one half empty and a full whiskey glass. Another syringe and empty vials fill the rest of the bar top.

Dana Ellyn

I am a full time painter living and working in downtown Washington DC. I have always painted current events and reacted to the world around me. As soon as the COVID-19 pandemic became front page news in 2020, I began creating virus-themed work from my downtown studio. I created close to 100 unique paintings that documented the constantly mutating “facts" surrounding this once in a lifetime global phenomenon.
