Peace With Myself

My last piece of the semester is titled, Peace with Myself. This piece was supposed to be the epitome of my semester. During the year of 2020-2021, I was faced with many challenges over the course of two semesters. The most commonly shared obstacle was Covid-19. The pandemic of Covid-19 created a mass panic shared between everyone regardless of race, gender or sexuality. The virus showed favoritism to no one but ultimately also led to other challenges too such as mental health. For me, my anxiety peaked and I found myself drowning in work too. I was scared to live my life and this made everyday challenging for my mental and physical health. I began to not want to work on myself because of being afraid of success, challenges and being uncomfortable. I realized that this was not the way to live for me or anyone.

The pandemic experience only made the feelings of loss and loneliness develop quicker and deeper but also provided the space to lean into the loss and work through it thoroughly without the opportunity for distraction to take it's place. If it wasn't for the space provided by the pandemic, I don't think I would have been able to process grief as well as I did.

The Path (Still)

To the Terrace

State of the Nation

To Mend a Broken Heart 1

Angel of the Pandemic: Dear Lord, I am Tired

Ink and acrylic on canvas. The piece depicts a gray colored angel, turned to the right side and holding their chest, their wings angled downwards. The angel looks upwards with their eyes closed. Surrounding them are blots of blue paint and ink in different shades.

Someday We'll Dance

Acrylic on a black canvas. The outline of a person wearing a beaded necklace and a dress is done in white. The top of the dress is a solid purple while the bottom of the dress is done in a pour so different shades of purple and white overlap each other.

Hanging on or Letting Go

Breaking Free

In the white section there are two butterflies, one teal and the other purple, their shadows reflecting onto the white background. Above the center, another smaller teal butterfly rests with its shadow reflecting onto the white surface. The piece is in a black frame.

AHISTORIC WALK

On a light tan paper background, painted footprints of all different sizes cover the piece in a darker tan-gray color. The footprints do not overlap and are turned to the left and right, following no specific path.

Make a Wish

Nancy Rose Blvd.

QUARANTINE

This pattern has been covered with a thin coat of white paint, so it is very faint. Over this, gray rectangles of various sizes are arranged to create uneven blocky structures.
