AHISTORIC WALK

Acrylic on paper. 30x3 feet. 2020. When India shut down overnight, hundreds of thousands of migrant wage-labours were stranded in cities without any food or resources. In absence of any state support, medical assistance and rapidly depleting food supplies, they embarked on a foot-journey to their homes hundreds of miles away. Children, older and sick people died, but the able-ones continued their journey to die in their home. This ahistoric walk was not for life, but to die in their home where they will be given a due farewell instead of being dumped in a ditch.
