Item description
A mixed media artwork. In the center of the piece is a square with an image of the shadows of two people against a colorful graffitied wall. The person on the left wears a long flowing gown and the person on the right wears slightly flared pants. Surrounding the dark blue shadows are more abstract shadows in dots and different geometric shapes. Bordering the image is a dark colored frame with dark blue and green diagonal stripes and small circles and swirls overlapping each other.

The World According to Hope Gallery #1

Barb Stewart

The original photos of The World According to Hope Gallery #1, #2 and Selfie of Hope were all taken in 2018 at Hope Outdoor Gallery in Austin, TX. Always an admirer of 'street art' or graffiti I wanted to look back during COVID to a time that had been both joyful and intriguing as a photographer. Photo taken during that time were accompanied by mixed media to complete the art in 2021.

It was a shocking and frightening time during the first year of COVID. Looking back, I believe my youngest daughter had been hospitalized with it (undetermined, fast acting pneumonia) before it was even given credence in the US.

The consequences of being in lock-down and the loss of freedom that followed were in stark contrast (much like the photos) of a more innocent time.
